The following provides an Overview of the Meridian's Vessel Tracking and Management System (MVM). A more detailed description of our vessel tracking system and the various options can be found at the Vessel Tracking for Specific Applications and Vessel Tracking in Detail pages. We have an MVM Vessel Tracking Clients Pages where our clients can access maps showing their particular vessel locations. If you require more detailed information on the various options available with our system then please contact us directly via email or from the feedback page.
Vessel Management System (MVM)OVERVIEW |
Meridians Vessel Management System (MVM) is a GPS based vessel tracking and management system. The mobile unit can be any form of vehicle, vessel or aircraft. Mobile unit locations are displayed in real-time against relevant background data utilising GIS based software which, along with additional utilities, provides a flexible management tool for both the vessel owner and/or charterer.
MVM obtains an accurate position from the Global Positioning System (GPS) suite of satellites operated by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS provides world-wide 24 hour coverage with an accuracy of better than 5 metres in Differential mode.
MVM will operate on a wide range of vessels including:
Crew Vessels
Oil Field Supply Vessels
Anchor Handling Tugs
Drilling Rigs (Semi-Submersible, Tender and Jack-Ups)
Seismic Survey Vessels
Scout and Fish Trap Survey Vessels
Tankers (Oil, LPG etc.)
Cargo / Container Vessels
The Communications System carrying the position information back to the central display computer can be any of the following:
- HF, UHF, VHF Radio
- Cellular or Satellite Telephone
- Satellite Communication Systems (Inmarsat C, D+)
Each has its own advantage and disadvantage depending on the operating environment of the system.
The Management Display System utilises MapInfo GIS for the geographic display of mobile unit position overlaid on base maps showing relevant background data such as land mass, road networks, cities and towns, islands, rock outcrops, pipelines, FPSOs, platforms, wellheads, and danger zones.
The MVM system enables the Fleet Manager to manage his fleet more efficiently and economically, and with a higher degree of safety.
