Meridian Surveys is pleased to be able to provide a free, real-time display of the Jalur Gemilang as it attempted to be the first solo non-stop west to east circumnavigation. The service is completely automated. The position updates are sent at pre-programmed intervals from the yacht's GMDSS (Global Marine Distress and Safety System) via the Inmarsat C communications satellites to a Land Earth Station (LES). The LES automatically forwards the update to Meridian's control centre in Kuala Lumpur where the position is plotted by the computer on a computer map and then uploaded to the web site every 6 hours. All software modules required to perform this task were written in-house here in Malaysia.
